Use

FinLab provides free calculators and guides for personal, non-commercial use. Outputs are estimates from your inputs and published rules. Do not rely on them as the sole basis for a financial decision.

You do not need an account and there is nothing to pay. Using the site means accepting these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the calculators or guides.

What the calculators are and are not

Every calculation runs in your browser using rates and thresholds published by Inland Revenue, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand and Kāinga Ora, recorded with the date each was last checked. A calculator cannot see your credit history, apply a particular lender's internal policy, or know anything about your circumstances beyond the figures you type in. Its output is an estimate of what published rules imply, not a statement of what any bank, employer or government agency will do.

Some inputs, such as interest rates and bank stress-test rates, are editable defaults rather than official figures. They are starting points intended to be changed to match the offers actually in front of you.

No warranty

The site is provided as is. FinLab does not warrant that any output is error-free or fit for your circumstances. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under New Zealand consumer law that cannot be excluded.

To the extent the law allows, FinLab is not liable for any loss arising from use of the site or reliance on its outputs. Rules change, and a figure that was correct when last verified may since have moved; each tool shows the date its underlying data was checked so you can judge how current it is.

Accuracy and corrections

If a figure on the site conflicts with the official source it cites, the official source prevails. Confirmed errors are fixed in the underlying data and recorded, with the date, on the corrections and change log. If you believe something is wrong, the contact page explains what to include so it can be checked.

Availability

FinLab is offered without any guarantee of uptime. Tools and guides may be changed, replaced or withdrawn, and rules data is updated as official sources change.

Tools, rules and these terms may change. Material changes to how information is handled will appear on the privacy page.
