Reporting a figure that looks wrong

FinLab is built on published New Zealand rules, and we want the numbers to be right. If a figure looks off, email us with:

• The calculator or guide (for example, take-home pay or the mortgage tool)
• The figure that looks wrong, and what you expected
• The official source you compared it against, if you have one

Confirmed errors are corrected in the data and deployed as soon as practical, with the source and effective date updated. How corrections are handled is described on the methodology page.

What happens to a correction

Reports are checked against the official source rather than taken at face value, because the published rule is what the calculators are meant to reflect. If the figure on the site is wrong it is fixed in the underlying data, deployed, and recorded with the date on the corrections and change log, which is public and is never edited after the fact. If the figure turns out to be right, we will tell you what source it came from so you can see the reasoning.

The same address handles questions about reusing FinLab material, linking to the calculators, or anything else about how the site is run. FinLab does not accept guest posts, paid links or sponsored content, so pitches of that kind will not get a reply.
